Midwife Notes 2nd ed. is a curated workbook for midwifery students to reinforce learning during their educational program and in review for their certification exam.  The e-publication covers content in all 6 major areas, antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, newborn, gynecology, and primary care.   Through this interactive format, students can  identify gaps in their knowledge and work to improve retention of knowledge.  As a bonus, several SOAP formatted templates are available to help student think through clinical scenarios, differential diagnosis, and management.

Meet the Faculty

Amy-Cara-Missi

Dr. Missi Stec
Co-Founder, Faculty
Dr. Missi Stec is a Professor at the Emory University Nell Woodruff Hodgson School of Nursing. Missi completed her MSN in midwifery in 2005 from Vanderbilt. She returned to Vanderbilt for a DNP that she earned in 2010. She is a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and in the America College of Nurse Midwives. She is a past program director of the midwifery program at the University of Cincinnati, teaching all midwifery specialty courses. In addition, she has developed and lead two innovative DNP programs. Her emphasis has always been on improving the patient experience during pregnancy and birth. She has been in full scope midwifery practice for more than 15 years and currently works at Wilson Health in Sidney, OH. Missi was the chair of the ACNM Division of Education and was the managing editor of the ACNM Exam Prep Review Book from 2012-2016. She redeveloped the ACNM Exam Prep course for students in 2012 to include student centered, active learning strategies. She has been coordinating and teaching the onsite exam prep at the ACNM Annual Meeting ever since. Missi has a passion for midwifery education and helping students to reach their maximum potential.
Missi lives in Cincinnati, Ohio with her husband Bob, their children Nate, Brooks, and Rory and the puppies Missy, Zadie, NoTORIous, and Coco.
Dr. Cara Busenhart
Co-Founder, Faculty
Dr. Cara Busenhart is an Assistant Clinical Professor and Director of Midwifery & Advanced Practice at the University of Kansas School of Nursing. Cara completed her MSN at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and her certificate in nurse-midwifery at the University of Kansas in 2004. She returned to the University of Kansas as faculty and Program Director of Midwifery in 2009 and completed her PhD in 2014. Cara has taught all of the midwifery specialty courses, as well as health assessment and health promotion, but her passion lies in primary care of women and antepartum care. She has practiced full-scope midwifery for more than 15 years, from a private practice with other CNMs and OB/GYNs to interprofessional safety net clinics caring for uninsured and undocumented women. Dr. Busenhart is active within the American College of Nurse-Midwives and was inducted as a Fellow in the College in 2018. She has worked closely with Dr. Stec since 2012 to revise the ACNM Exam Prep Review Book, as well as the ACNM Exam Prep course for students. Cara is passionate about evidence-based education and is eager to facilitate student learning—usually integrating a large dose of humor and a moderate amount of energy and fun into learning sessions.
Cara lives in Overland Park, Kansas with her husband Tim, children Julia and Max and their puppy Lucy.
Dr. Amy Palmer
Faculty
Dr. Amy Palmer is a Professor at the Emory University Nell Woodruff Hodgson School of Nursing.  Amy completed her certified training as a nurse-midwife at Frontier Nursing University along with her MSN from Case Western Reserve University.  After 12 years of clinical midwifery practice, Amy returned to Frontier Nursing University to complete her DNP in 2015. She has been in undergraduate nursing education as well as graduate midwifery education as clinical and didactic faculty at the University of Cincinnati, Ivy Tech University and Frontier Nursing University. In 2019, Amy stepped back into clinical practice to provide comprehensive care through annual women’s health exams, reproductive counseling, sexual health, and menopause care.  Amy has a true passion for women’s health and taking the time to get to know women and build that trusting relationship. Amy lives in Lawrenceburg, Indiana with her three daughters who keep her very busy and her fur babies, Sammy and Ripley.
